This year, the Regatta and Subios Festival was joined together and brought alive at the Beau Vallon Beach. Once again the National Council for Children was invited to bring the Children’s Village to the event since it was deemed very successful last year. The two day event took place from Saturday 5th November to Sunday 6th November.
We were hard at work on Saturday morning to put the Village in place. One by one tents were put up and colorful flags were used to decorate the area and soon the Village was looking more and more like a child’s haven.
The Bouncing Castle was one of the main attractions amongst the many fun activities we had set up. Children were beyond excited to tackle the obstacle course of the bouncing castle. Their smiles and laughter filled up the Village.
Another very popular attraction was the Face Painting Stall which remained busy till the very end. Little girls had their pretty faces painted with colorful flowers and butterflies whilst the boys had their inner superhero like Spiderman painted on.
We also had our hoopla, feed the shark, slat the rat, wheel of fortune and roll a rupee games which were also very popular.
Last year’s ‘Guess the Name of the Doll’ game was replaced by ‘Guess the name of the Guinea Pigs’. We were pleased to have been donated two adorable guinea pigs for the very popular game. Kids flocked to see the guinea pigs and had parents under their spell so they could try their luck.
This year we had a few employees of the Ministry of Health set up a Health Stall whereby they prepared healthy food and drinks such as fruit bowls and fresh juices which they sold. It was a good way to show parents and their children a way to a healthy lifestyle.
Kids got the chance to let their inner star come out at the Karaoke Stall and it proved to be quite the entertainment for the onlookers watching the kids perform.
At the NCC information stall there were NCC T-Shirts, Frisbee as well as the NCC 2012 Calendar on sale.
To add that extra touch to the Village we had our two joyful clowns entertain the children and put a smile on their faces.
All in all, the Children’s Village 2011 was definitely the place to be during the Regatta & Subios Weekend!
