The Seychelles Islands, situated in the Indian Ocean, 4 degrees South of the Equator, has a population of approximately 80,000 inhabitants, of which 33 percent is young people aged below 0 and 18 years. Over the years the National Council for Children (NCC), a Non Government Organisation, has been an active advocate for the rights of children and has been vocal in its denunciation of child abuse . It has also worked to raise-public awareness on issues related to children's well being.

NCC launches Fifth Edition of Child Protection week

              

 NCC launches Child Protection week 2009 on Sunday 24th May at the Children’s Arc, Bel Eau.

Child Protection week, an annual event on the NCC calendar enters its fifth edition this year, under the theme, ‘Unite for Children’. The theme echoes UNICEF’s call and also the national theme, ‘Koste Seselwa’.

'Cuddles' - Charity Bear by Air Seychelles

'Cuddles' is our brand new charity bear, $7 from each bear sold will be donated to the Seychelles National Council for Children.  Founded by the former First Lady, Mrs Geva Rene, the Council has grown over the years from spindly beginnings into a full-blown authority on children and is one of the
leading organisations for children in the Seychelles.  Adopting the philosophy of Noah's Arc, many children and their families seek and find comfort away from pain that hurts little hearts.

Protecting children from misuse of technology

The threat to children from the misuse of technology will be highlighted in a series of events over the next few days.

Among the potential dangers are breaches of children’s privacy, sexual predators online, people disguising their true identities online and children being filmed – for example on a mobile phone – without their knowledge.

The Safe Technology Committee is running the awareness programme to mark World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which this year has the theme: Protecting children in cyberspace.
